Dear Lithuanian language enthusiasts!
To make the wait for spring more enjoyable, we are already planning excursions—and we are starting close to home, but it is no less wonderful.
On Saturday, May 9, we are going to Zarasai, a small but interesting town in northeastern Lithuania.
On the way, we will stop at the unique Salakas Church.
In Zarasai, we will first visit the artists’ Saukų Gallery. It was opened a few years ago in one of the oldest buildings in the town. With a guide, we will see not only the paintings of Šarūnas and Nomeda Saukai but also exhibitions dedicated to the resistance movement and Jewish culture. (Ticket for adults: €8.80; discounts apply for students, seniors, and people with disabilities; guide service: €8 per group).
Afterwards, we will have a guided tour of Zarasai with Irena Baliule, a literature scholar from the region. (Guide service: €70 per group for a 2-hour tour).
We will have lunch at Šlyninka Water Mill, where we can taste traditional heritage dishes. The miller will also tell us about how our ancestors lived more than 100 years ago. (Lunch with educational program: from €15 per person).
Bus transportation: €20 per person.
